RICHMOND, Va. -- Police have identified the man who was killed after being struck by a train Tuesday morning in Richmond’s East End.

The victim has been identified as James D. Wyche, 64, of the 1300 block of Jennie Scher Road.

Police said his body was found near train tracks along the 3300 Williamsburg Avenue, not far from Stone Brewing and the Fulton Gas Works, in the Fulton area of Richmond.

Investigators say his body was found lying between the rails a few yards from the north side of the roadway.

Wyche was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic with the Richmond Ambulance Authority.

Police said foul play is not suspected at this time. The medical examiner will determine the exact cause and manner of death.

“RPD detectives are working with investigators from the Norfolk Southern Corporation to determine when the victim was struck,” said a Richmond Police spokesperson in a statement. “They expect to learn more once they interview the engineer and conductor of a train that was travelling that stretch of track at approximately 3:30 a.m. Today.”

Officials with Norfolk Southern Railway said a there was a train scheduled to pass through that area overnight, so it was possible the man was struck several hours before his body was discovered.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Major Crimes Detective Gregory Russell at (804) 646-7715 or contact Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or at www.7801000.com.
