HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Henrico firefighters battled heavy smoke and flames at a business fire in the Sandston area on Henrico County Friday night.

The fire was located at a business in the 300 block of East Williamsburg Road.

Henrico Emergency Communications received several calls for smoke coming from a building out there near the intersection of E. Nine Mile Road just after 10:20 p.m. The first firefighters were on scene within five minutes and discovered smoke coming from the one-story building.

In spite of the volume of smoke, firefighters made their way inside to search for potential victims and locate the source of the fire. However, as the smoke grew increasingly dark and fire broke through the rear of the business, firefighters were pulled from the building and replaced by a ladder truck that flowed several thousands of gallons of water to quickly and safely battle the flames and smoke.

A partial collapse of the roof and thick walls on the rear of the building created significant challenges throughout the incident. Firefighters continued to work until all of the fire was controlled and extinguished.

There were no injuries to civilians or fire service personnel. The cause is currently under investigation by the Henrico Fire Marshal's Office.
