RICHMOND, Va. — A GRTC bus that was parked on 9th Street rolled forward unexpectedly and into a water hydrant late Thursday morning.

According to GRTC spokeswoman Carrie Rose-Pace, the bus rolled unexpectedly into the fire hydrant near the southeast corner of 9th and Leigh Streets, on the east side of Leigh.

The bus was not in service at the time, and no passengers were aboard. The driver was not injured.

The hydrant spilled water initially but was quickly contained.

We do not have a cause for the incident at this time, as our standard investigation will occur to review all sources available,” Rose-Pace said.

The bus is being towed back to GRTC headquarters in South Richmond, so that officials can work to determine the cause of the incident.
