RICHMOND, Va. — There is such a thing as a free lunch.

It was a middle of the day surprise for some recent recipients of CBS 6 Gives.

Anchor Cheryl Miller and photojournalist Chris Munnings surprised a lunchtime crowd at City Diner in Richmond, by announcing CBS 6 was picking up the tab.

“I noticed people were looking at us when we walked in with the camera, but quickly went back to their meals and conversations,” Cheryl said. “But when I announced we were doing a random act of kindness and buying lunch for everybody, the place erupted in applause.”

Patrons of the diner at that time of day included families, co-workers, and even a half dozen Richmond firefighters.

Many people took the time to say thank you, and some shared personal stories of random acts of kindness, both given and received.

And on this day, lunch was served, with an extra serving of smiles all around thanks to CBS 6 Gives.

The CBS 6 Month of Giving is underway. Every day through December, a CBS 6 team member will surprise someone in the community with a random act of kindness.

The CBS 6 Month of Giving is possible due to a partnership with Union Bank and Trust.
