UVA got 13 points off the bench from Kyle Guy and opened up a big lead early, cruising to a 76-53 win over East Carolina. London Perrantes and Mamadi Diakite added 12 each as the Cavaliers improved to 8-1. Former John Marshall standout Jeremy Sheppard led the Pirates with 17

VCU head coach Will Wade spent a good part of his Tuesday morning press conference trying to explain his team's most recent loss to Illinois. Wade blamed part of it on selfish play which he can detect is coming just from what the players wear on the trip. Two players did not wear VCU gear on the plane ride to Miami, and to Wade, it's a very big deal when a rule like that is ignored.

"If we get on the bus to go to Old Dominion, and you're not in VCU gear? Your a** is going right back to the dorm and the bus is leaving" Wade said. "I don't care who it is. We're not going to win with you because you're in the total wrong frame of mind when you get on the bus."

The Rams host Georgia Tech Wednesday night at 7.

Megan Walker scored 30 points as the two-time defending 4A state champion Lady Chiefs of Monacan opened their season with a 79-39 win over Midlothian.

And JMU head coach Mike Houston promises a great atmophere for the Duke's first prime time game in 8 years as they host Sam Houston St. Friday night in the FCS quarterfinals.

"It'll be a great atmosphere in Bridgeforth Stadium" Houston said Tuesday. "I expect it to be packed. It'll be cold, it'll be dark, it'll be perfect. It's December and it's playoff time."
