RICHMOND, Va. -- A one-year old boy was shot while inside a Northside home Sunday night.
The bullet entered the Woodcliff Avenue home and struck the child in his arm.
The boy was rushed to VCU Medical Center where he was expected to make a full recovery.
Richmond Police were called to Woodcliff Avenue at about 11:42 p.m. Sunday, for a report about a person who was shot. Around the same time, police received another call about random gunfire in the 2900 block of Woodcliff.
Police say there is no indication that there was more than one shooting in the area.
“This was 10 distinct pops and it felt like just out our back door,” said neighbor Phillip Vollmer who was inside his home with his wife and six month old daughter. “It’s one of those things where your eyes pop open for the first two you get really worried for the next three that you hear and your heart goes into your throat when it just doesn’t stop and the and the last four or five keep going and you know you know something bad has happened,” added Vollmer.
When officers arrived, they found the boy, who was staying with relatives.
Multiple rounds were shot into the Woodcliff Avenue home, according to police.
The shooter(s) drove off in a car after firing shots into the home, witnesses told police.
“You can’t help but imagining it happening to your child,” said Vollmer. “We’re just sort of cozied in here and we really didn’t think anything like this would happen right down the street,” added Vollmer.
Police have not released a description of the suspects nor their car.
