RICHMOND, Va. — The lock down at Riverfront Plaza East Tower was lifted just after 3 p.m., according to workers.

The downtown Richmond building was placed on lock down earlier Thursday afternoon as Richmond Police looked for a bank robber.

Multiple people who work in Riverfront Plaza East Tower reached out to CBS 6 to reported their building was placed on lock down and they were told to shelter in place.

“Please be quiet and silence phones. This is not a drill,” one email to workers read.

“I was outside of the building at approximately 1:15 p.m. when the building was surrounded by police cars,” a Riverfront Plaza worker shared with CBS 6. “I was able to enter the East Tower, where my office is, but was told the building was being placed on lock down, and I could not exit.”

Richmond Police said they were looking for a man who robbed the Wells Fargo along the 800 block of East Main Street.

That man was later taken into custody in South Richmond.
