Firefighter recovering after fall through floor of burning Richmond home

RICHMOND, Va. — A Richmond firefighter is recovering at home Wednesday after he fell about 12 feet through hole in the floor of a burning home.

Richmond Fire Department Lieutenant Mike Oprandy was injured fighting a fire on North 33rd Street in Richmond on Tuesday.

Oprandy’s wife Kathryn praised the her husband’s co-workers who helped him get out of the burning home, and the community who has come to the aid of the family in their time of need.

“Thankfully, the fire was above him and his guys were able to get to him and assist him out,” she wrote. “In the next few hours that followed, his car was brought home along with all of his personal belongings he had for the day, dinner was brought to my house for the kids, food brought to the hospital, paperwork complete, etc. These guys are the best and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
