‘Thanksgiving bandit’ arrested for several armed robberies in Henrico

HENRICO, Va. — Police arrested a suspect in several local armed robberies and said further charges were pending.

James Steele Deskins Jr. was arrested by police on Monday, Nov. 28 and charged with robbery and use of a firearm in commission of a felony for three incidents over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Deskins walked into the Rite Aid in the 5000 block of Lakeside Avenue,  on Nov. 24 just before noon and robbed the pharmacy. Lt. B.T. Wilson with Henrico police said the suspect was armed with a silver semi-automatic handgun and he demanded cash and prescription medication.

Deskins was also charged with the robbery a store in the 11400 block of W. Broad Street in Short Pump, that occurred around 8 p.m. on Nov. 26.

A restaurant in the 9600 block of W. Broad Street was robbed around 9 p.m. on Nov.  27.

Police said that further charges are pending for several other robberies in the county.

A photo of Deskins originally released by police showed him surveilling a CVS just up the street from the Lakeside Rite Aid, prior to the crime.
