The local malls, shops open on Thanksgiving Day

RICHMOND, Va. – Shoppers who want to walk off their calories on Thanksgiving and pick up early deals will still find plenty of options at local malls.

Though some retailers locally and nationally have started to push back against the recent trend of opening on Thanksgiving to help shoppers beat the Black Friday rush, many shops at malls will remain open Thanksgiving.

Many malls say they are closed officially,but they do offer support to the retailers who set their own hours.

Chesterfield Towne Center will be open from 6 to 11 p.m. on Thanksgiving and reopen on Black Friday at 9 a.m. A mall representative said that individual merchants have the option to open earlier or stay open later. For example, anchor store J.C. Penny opens at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 24.  On Black Friday, the mall reopens at 9 a.m.

Regency Square won’t officially be open on Thanksgiving, but J.C. Penney’s opens at 3 p.m. and doesn’t close until 10 p.m. Black Friday.

Short Pump Town Center isn’t officially open on Thanksgiving, though several retailers will be open. Dick’s Sporting Goods opens at 6 p.m. and stays open through Friday night, closing only from 2 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Check with retailers to determine hours. On Black Friday, the mall reopens from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Stony Point Fashion Park is officially closed on Thanksgiving, with the exception of Fleming’s Steakhouse, Cinebistro and Dick’s Sporting Goods – who will open at 6 p.m. and stay open through Friday, closing only from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. Friday. Black Friday hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Stony Point.

Southpark Mall is officially closed, but not really. Individual retailers like Dick’s and J.C. Penney’s will be open the same hours as they are at the other malls. On Black Friday, Southpark opens at 6 a.m. and operates with extended hours.

Virginia Center Commons will be open from 6 p.m. – 1 a.m. Thanksgiving Day and re-open on Black Friday from 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. Extended hours will continue throughout the holiday shopping season. Willow Lawn Mall is closed but some retailers will be open. Old Navy opens at 4 p.m. and stays open until Black Friday evening. Retailers also have individual start times on Black Friday.

Locally, Walmart, Dollar General, Walgreens, Big Lots and Bass Pro Shops have the longest hours Thanksgiving hours.

Walmart stays open 24 hours, but their deals don’t start until later Thanksgiving day and again on Black Friday morning.

Bass Pro will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving and will reopen on Black Friday, with hours from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Big Lots is open from 7 a.m. to midnight on Thanksgiving.

Retailers like Belk’s, Best Buy, CVS, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Stein Mart, Target, Toys R Us, and ULTA open Thanksgiving evening.

Some of the retailers who have chosen to close are A.C. Moore, Ace Hardware, Ann Taylor, Barnes & Noble, Bed Bath & Beyond (select locations), Banana Republic, Burlington, Cabela’s, Costco, Crate and Barrel, Dillard’s, Dressbarn, DSW, GameStop, hhgregg, H & M, Hobby Lobby, Home Depot, HomeGoods, Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Stores, Lowe’s, Marshalls, Nordstrom, Office Depot, OfficeMax, Petco, PetSmart, Pier 1 Imports, Publix, REI, Sam’s Club, Staples, T.J. Maxx, and Tractor Supply.
