RICHMOND, Va. — The James Center complex is under contract but the city’s beloved Grand Illumination will still take place on Dec. 2, confirmed the management company.
The holiday tradition brings thousands to Cary Street to watch as the giant Christmas tree, white-light reindeer, and tall city buildings are illuminated.
This tradition dates back to 1984, said Kimberly Carter, James Center Marketing Director.
The trio of downtown towers, which encompass nearly 1 million square feet of office space, has found a suitor, reports Richmond BizSense.
The next owner of the complex would assume the responsibility of the Grand Illumination, but Carter said the tradition is likely to continue.
The 32nd Grand Illumination takes place on Dec. 2. Join other holiday revelers for the 6 p.m. lighting outside the James Center between 9th and 12th Streets on Cary.
The event lasts until 7 p.m. and will feature The Rock n Roll Chorus and Katie Dupree as the Snow Queen.
Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) will be at Grand Illumination collecting toys for 200 Richmond-area children.
During the holiday season, these children will come to the James Center so their parents or guardians can “shop” for gifts.
From Grand Illumination night until Dec. 11, please bring unwrapped gifts for children ages 0-17 to the collection sleigh located in the Three James Center Lobby.
On Friday, Dec. 2, a ½ block of South 10th Street will be closed from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. from the James Center Parking Deck to Cary Street. The parking garage will remain accessible from Canal Street onto 10th Street. The far right parking lane on Cary Street will close at 9 a.m. and will remain closed until 12 a.m.
For $3 parking is available in the parking deck on the corner of 10th and Canal Streets, after 4 p.m.
