RICHMOND, Va. -- VCU Police alerted students to a reported abduction attempt near the university's Monroe Park campus.
A student walking near Morris Street and Floyd Avenue Wednesday night was grabbed by a man, according to VCU Police. When the victim tried to escape, the attacker took out a knife and threatened the student, police said.
The student eventually got away from the attacker who then reportedly ran off down an alley.
The suspect was described as a male of unknown race who was wearing a grey hoodie at the time of the attack.
Police did not indicate the gender of the student who was grabbed.
The attack, which happened at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, was originally reported to Richmond Police because it happened off campus. The VCU Police Department was informed about the crime Thursday and alerted students.
As part of the alert. VCU Police offered these reminders to keep students safe:
- If you find yourself in a similar situation do not resist. Cooperate.
- In the event of an incident such as this, the information you provide police will help them identify the suspect(s). Focus on his or her physical characteristics, i.e. clothing description, height and weight, and last known direction of travel.
- Don't make any sudden, unexpected moves.
- Avoid isolated areas and walking alone at night. Consider use of the Escort Service (828-9255(WALK) during the hours of 5pm-8am.
