CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Strolling down Memory Lane is one of Blanche and Albert Davis’ favorite past times.

The loving couple spends their autumn days on a porch seat in Chesterfield. It is a long way from where they first laid eyes on each other in London, England.

It was during a time when love would trump war.

"I was known as a sharp character. And that is why I found you again," Albert said.

The year was 1944. World War Two was raging.

The Brooklyn-born Albert was serving in the Army while Blanche was serving as a bus conductor outside London.

"Well he must have liked me or he wouldn’t asked me to marry him. Right,” Blanche asked.

The couple got hitched seven months later in April 1945.

"We’ve been married for 71 years," Albert said.

Albert’s military career would move him and his English bride from London and Paris to Fort Knox and finally to Fort Lee.

The couple settled in Petersburg for 50 years.

"We’ve got four children. Two Boys and two girls," Blanche said. "I thought he was very good looking because he was very good looking when he was young."

So what’s the secret to a long and prosperous marriage? A sense of humor and being faithful.

"Don’t let your eyes stray to another woman," Blanche said. "That is the main thing. Because if he did that I would have been long gone."

Blanche and Albert said they never had a seven-year or seven-decade itch. The 93-year-old veteran and his 92-year-old bride said they could not live without one another.

"I would miss him I guess I don’t know. What can we say about that, Albert? You’re great," she said.

Even after all of these years the fire burns between them. At least when Albert is awake.

"He goes to bed early," she said.

"What do you mean early?" he replied.

"Well, I call 8 or 9 o’clock early," she answered.

"Who goes to bed that early?" he inquired.

"You do!" she exclaimed.

Albert and Blanche Davis celebrate their love that grows stronger by the day.

"My affection for you has not changed one bit," Albert said. "I see Blanche from 1945 to 2016 as a lovely, lovely young lady to who I’m really attracted."
