PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- There was a lot of confusion among Prince George school employees Friday morning, because of a payroll error. Some employees didn't get a check at all Friday, while others were either overpaid or underpaid.

Phone calls about problems with direct deposit began pouring into the office Friday morning as school employees checked their online banking accounts.

New employees who received a paper check in September received no direct deposit in their accounts Friday morning, for their October pay.

Employees with overtime in October, but not the previous month, were not paid the additional amount owed to them.

The school system employees about 1,000 employees, many who get paid the exact amount each month.  but for those who don't or saw no pay check at all it has created a hardship.

The school system addressed the issue Friday afternoon, and acknowledged that some teachers were undergoing a hardship.

"Provisions have been made for folks to obtain some Emergency funds to last through the weekend until that new deposit takes place on Monday, uploaded on Monday," said Dr. Patrick Bingham said.

The issue occurred because the September payroll was uploaded instead of the October payroll file. Dr. Bingham said the correct payroll will be uploaded Monday and the September funds deposited withdrawn shortly thereafter.

The school system said they are also working to put in safeguards so this doesn't happen again.
