HENRICO COUNTY --- School leaders will vote Thursday to rename part of Mills Godwin High School after a teacher who was killed in a car crash.

Todd Phillips died after his car hit another car at the intersection of Ridgefield Parkway and John Rolfe Parkway in the West End on June 17. Phillips was a teacher and coach at Godwin High. He was also the director for the school's Center for Medical Sciences.

After his passing, several students came up with the idea to name the Center in honor of Phillips.

"This idea came from all of the people's lives he touched to memorialize him in a meaningful way," said Henrico County Schools Spokesperson Andy Jenks.  "I think in and beyond the Godwin community it's a very important and meaningful day. "

Phillips went above and beyond when it came to taking care of his students, Jenks added. In his honor, those students wanted to name the Center for Medical Sciences at Godwin the "Todd Phillips Center for Medical Sciences."

"A lot of us knew Todd very well and to see the passion to see he brought forward every single day was remarkable," Jenks said. "And it showed when the community came out to celebrate his life as well."

The Henrico County School Board will be meeting Thursday from 6:30 p.m.  to 8 p.m.  and is expected to officially vote on the measure.
