CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — Chesterfield County officials are cautioning residents to expect a large police and fire presence Sunday, October 30 during an active shooter exercise in the county.

The exercise will be held at Carver Middle School, located at 3800 Cougar Trail. The drills will be held from 9:00 a.m. to about 2:00 p.m.

Officials said residents should expect to hear loud noises that sound like gunshots and sirens from numerous public safety personnel and vehicles.

The active shooter exercise will be conducted by several of Chesterfield County’s public safety and emergency management departments.

“This training will allow the involved agencies to coordinate and respond to a simulated active shooter situation and evaluate their collaborative response,” said a Chesterfield County spokesperson. “This exercise will involve elements of Chesterfield County Emergency Management, Chesterfield County Police, Chesterfield Sheriff’s Office, Fire and EMS, and Public Schools.”

Officials expect 300 public safety, school and county staff to participate in the exercise. Most of the presence will be in the vicinity of Carver Middle School.
