RICHMOND, Va. – Hundreds of children in the Richmond area sleep on floors, sofas, and chairs every night because their families can’t afford beds.

Bridging RVA is working to change that with its 100 beds for 100 kids campaign and now they are asking the community for their help.

Board Chairman of Bridging RVA, John Sawyer, joined CBS 6 news to discuss the campaign.

The initiative’s goal is to donate 100 beds to area children in need by generating funds and volunteers to deliver the beds.

Bridging RVA started the campaign two years ago and succeeded in their 100 bed goal.

Their goal of 100 beds cost approximately $20,000. That equals $225 per bed that covers a bed frame, mattress, boxspring, sheets, pillow and blanket.

The organization is now calling on the community to help them reach this year’s goal and volunteers to help deliver the beds.

Thanks to the generosity of the Huguenot Trail Rotary Club, Bridging RVA is more than halfway to reaching their goal.

Bridging RVA still needs around $7,000 in donations to fulfill their goal for Richmond area children.

Volunteers will get together on Saturday, November 19 to deliver the remainder of the beds. The event will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Huguenot Square Shopping Center. You must register online to volunteer during the event.
