Man arrested in connection with homicide; no murder charges filed

RICHMOND, Va. — A Richmond man faces two felonies in connection with a homicide that occurred Saturday morning in the Swansboro West neighborhood.

Tracey S. Hughes, 54, of the 3300 block of Lawson Street, was taken into custody Saturday, police said.

At approximately 6:38 a.m. on Oct. 22, officers were called to the 3300 block of Lawson Street for a report of a person down.

The victim – Naquan R. Bentley, 35, of the 5800 block of Westover Village Drive –was located outside. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bentley was declared Richmond’s 52nd homicide of the year.

Detectives do not believe the incident to be a random act. The case remains under investigation.

Hughes has been charged with possession of a sawed-off shotgun and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Additional charges are expected, police said.
