Richmond car crash turns into shooting investigation

RICHMOND, Va. -- Police say the driver who crashed his car into a Southside yard was shot just before the accident.

Officers responded to reports of a single car crash in the 4100 block of Walmsley Boulevard around 10:30 pm Saturday night.

Police say the driver hit several mailboxes and a small tree from Grubbs Lane to Beachwood before coming to rest next to a house.

When officers reached the driver they discovered he had been shot.

Paramedics took the victim to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but he is expected to survive.

Investigators haven't found where the man was shot but believe it was somewhere in the area.
