Police release name of motorcyclist killed in I-64 wreck

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. — State police have released the name of the man killed in a two-vehicle crash on I-64 in New Kent County Sunday afternoon.

Officials said the wreck happened at 3:30 p.m. at mile marker 213 not far from the Courthouse Road exit.

“A 2009 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling west on I-64 and changing lanes at a high rate of speed when it struck the rear of a 2016 Dodge Journey also traveling westbound on I-64,” Virginia State Police Public Relations Director Corinne N. Geller said.

The driver of the motorcycle, 21-year-old Jarrett M. Schoerner of Williamsburg, was thrown from his bike.

Schoerner, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt.

Officials said the wreck remains under investigation.

The wreck backed up traffic on I-64 for more than seven miles., but had cleared by about 7 p.m.
