Teen driver killed in crash on I-85

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. -- One person was killed in a crash on Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County, according to Virginia State Police. A second person involved in the crash was rushed to the hospital.

"A 2008 Chevrolet was travelling south on Interstate 85 when it ran off the road to the left, overcorrected right, then back left running off the roadway and striking several trees," Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick said. "The male driver was ejected onto the roadway where he was struck by a 2012 Infiniti that was unable to avoid."

The driver who died was a 19 years old, police said. A 17-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash was reported at about 6:01 a.m., on Interstate 85 southbound, just north of Route 703 in Dinwiddie County.

Police will release the victim's name once next of kin has been notified.
