CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — A threat was left in a bathroom at James River High School this week, following one made earlier in the week at Monocan High School.

School officials said that the graffiti was inappropriate and determined by police not to be a credible threat.

A parent who wished not to be identified said that it referenced a school shooting and kept her child home from school today.  The parent added that the message from administrators did not specify exactly what the graffiti said, which upset the parent.

School officials confirmed that a message was sent to parents and that they are searching cameras near the bathrooms for the student who may have left the graffiti.

Officials added that they encouraged students to come forward with more information, and thanked the students who reported the graffiti.

The statement below is from Spokesman Shawn Smith:

On Wednesday, Oct. 19, the principal shared the following voice message with parents:  “I wanted to make you aware that a student reported finding inappropriate graffiti written in a restroom at our school. While at this point police determined this is not a credible threat, I did want to keep you informed of the situation and share my appreciation for our students who took the time to come forward and report the graffiti to help prevent what otherwise could have been a disruption to their normal learning environment.  Together with police, our administrative team has looked into the matter — searching cameras near the bathrooms and talking with students.  Again, at this point, police have determined there is no credible threat.  If your child has any information about the graffiti, please encourage him or her to talk to a school administrator on Thursday.  Thank you.”
