Parents walking their children to Westover Hills Elementary Thursday morning said they were concerned for their safety after a man was shot nearby just hours before.

“The crime is getting too close for comfort,” said Dorothy Washington while at the bus stop with her 5-year-old grandson.

Sources said someone was driving the shooting victim to the hospital when he fell out of an unlocked door in the backseat of the car and onto the pavement.

A youth football team was practicing in the elementary school’s field, while parents were walking with their children when at least five gunshots were heard, according to neighbors.

“My brother-in-law was out with his 9-year-old son when they heard the shots,” said Carrie Rogers, parent of three young children.

Police taped up the alleyway at Forest Hill Avenue and Prince Arthur Road and were seen interviewing witnesses.

“People were finding bullets in the alley behind their houses,” said Rogers.
