PETERSBURG, Va. — Petersburg City Council rejected a plan to hire The Robert Bobb Group to help turnaround city services.

The council’s vote took place Tuesday night at an open meeting.

One week ago, the same council voted in favor of the Bobb Group during a special closed session.

Robert Bobb, a former city manager of Richmond, runs a consulting firm which focuses on turnaround projects in both the areas of business and government.

He recently served as the emergency financial manager for the Detroit Public School System.

At Tuesday’s meeting Petersburg City Council was deadlocked on whether to give an emergency services contract to the Robert Bobb Group.

There were three yes votes, and three no votes.

One councilman abstained because he said he had too many unanswered questions.

Council has called a another special meeting, on Thursday night, to discuss the Robert Bobb contract.

Last week, six out of seven council members said they were in favor of hiring the Bobb Group.

Senior reporter Wayne Covil is in Petersburg today asking questions about the change of heart and will share his findings starting on the news at five.
