RICHMOND, Va. —  Gabe, a 75-pound American Bull Dog, was found safe on Wednesday. The white and brown dog escaped his handler near the Siegel Center on Broad Street, around 11 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15.

Gabe was hiding under a porch at Rosita's Taco shop.

Gabe, who is very friendly to animals but also very people shy, was spotted a couple of times since Sunday.  The organization Gracie’s Guardians is fostering Gabe, and they helped organize search parties after several sightings were reported.

Ultimately, Gabe was found under a porch at Rositas Taco Shop in the 900 block of Grace Street.

The community was very involved in Gabe’s search, with people searching around Bow Tie Cinema on Monday, and around VCU at Harrison Street on Tuesday.

Gracie’s Guardians thanked the Richmond community, who shared his photo so many times and who helped to post flyers.

“He is still searching for his forever home and will be up for adoption once he recovers,” they said.

Gabe isn’t hurt but is shaken from the unexpected adventure. He gets along well with other animals, but is a bit people shy at first.

You can reach Gracie’s Guardians, here.

Help find Gabe!

Gabe will be available for adoption soon

The organization was named after Gracie, one of many dogs taken from the Michael Vick compound in Smithfield, Virginia after a dog fighting raid in 2007. Gracie now resides with a member of the RAL family and the organization was named in her honor.
