Chesterfield mother found overdosed with toddler in motel room

CHESTERFIELD, Va. — A Chesterfield woman was arrested for drug use with a toddler in her care.

The woman was found passed out in a motel room, according to police sources.

When police responded to the overdose call, they found Ashley R. Howard in possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia while her 2-year-old daughter was in her care. She had opiates in her possession, according to police sources.

The child was okay and was released to a relative, police said.

Howard was charged with child abuse and neglect, distribution of controlled paraphernalia, and possession of controlled substances.

She returns to court on Dec. 6.
