HOPEWELL, Va. — Police are looking for the suspect in a shooting that took place Sunday afternoon in Hopewell and are encouraging an unidentified “Good Samaritan” who transported the victim to the hospital to come forward.

Officers responded to the 100 block of Reverend C.W. Harris Way just after 1 p.m. for a report of shots being fired. Shortly after officers arrived on scene, a male was dropped off at John Randolph Medical Center seeking treatment for a gunshot wound.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was shot at by an unknown subject in the area as he was getting into a vehicle. The vehicle then crashed into a parked car and the man got out and fled on foot to the area of Randolph Road, where he was picked up and transported to the hospital.

It was determined that the man had sustained a single non-life threatening gunshot wound to his upper arm.

Police said the suspect was last seen running into the Davisville Housing Community dressed in dark clothing.

Detectives believe that whoever transported the victim to the hospital may hold information critical to the investigation and are requesting that they contact Detective Keith Krueger of the Criminal Investigations Unit at 804-541-2284. They are also encouraging anyone else who may have been traveling in and around the area at the time of the shooting and may have observed any suspicious persons or vehicles to contact the Hopewell Police Department or the Hopewell Police Department or the Hopewell/Prince George Crime Solvers at 804-541-2202.
