GLEN ALLEN, Va. — Drivers who use Springfield Road to access Staples Mill will notice a change on their route.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has installed a temporary traffic light at Springfield Road and Francistown Road in Glen Allen.

“Crews will test the traffic signal with flashing operations beginning Tuesday, October 18,” a VDOT spokesperson said. “Full-color operations will follow between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Thursday, October 20. Drivers will begin to follow the new traffic signals at that time.”

VDOT hopes the temporary traffic signal will improve safety at the intersection while long-term design options are explored.

VDOT had been exploring ways to improve safety along the busy West End road and discussed the possibility of constructing a new road in the area, however funding issues have stalled that plan.
