RICHMOND, Va. — More than 100 trucks will flood Richmond-area interstates this weekend as part of the World’s Largest Truck Convoy for Special Olympics, according to Virginia State Police.

“The World’s Largest Truck Convoy is a unique one-day celebration in which law enforcement will escort a convoy of trucks through cities and towns in 38 states and Canada,” Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick said. “The event will raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics’ athletes. In 2015, over $30,000 was raised and 154 trucks participated in the nearly 50 mile convoy in support of Special Olympics Virginia.”

The trucks will leave Meadow Event Park in Doswell at about 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 15.

“Motorists should expect delays from the Meadow Event Park along Route 30 to Interstate 95 southbound between Doswell and Exit 84B and along Interstate 295 northbound to Interstate 64 eastbound to Bryan Park and Interstate 95 northbound, ending at the Meadow Event Park,” Vick said.

The convoy concludes Saturday at about 2 p.m.

In 2014, the World’s Largest Truck Convoy for Special Olympics raised awareness and more than $20,000 for Special Olympics Virginia. It also generated a ton of interest online when one confused driver’s Facebook post went viral.

“Are we in the Twilight Zone?” Adam Hicks asked while driving along Interstate 64 in Richmond last year. Hicks made the comment when he drove past a seemingly endless convoy of semi-trailer trucks — with Virginia State Police blocking any other vehicles from entering the highway.

“I want to re-iterate the interstate is blocked off. No incoming traffic,” Hicks’ passenger said. “This is Interstate 64, Richmond. No idea what’s going on. This is getting more and more bizarre.”

Hicks’ video was viewed more than 6 million times on Facebook.
