HENRICO, Va. – Public comments are now underway regarding the Henrico School Board’s proposal to rename the Mills Godwin High School’s specialty center for a beloved teacher and former center director.
At its Thursday work session. the board proposed renaming the school’s Center for Medical Sciences to the Todd Phillips Center for Medical Sciences.
Phillips, 55, was a longtime teacher, coach and center director who died in a car accident in June.
In 2015, Phillip led the center’s transition to a focus on medical sciences from its initial emphasis on math, science and technology.
Many of his students spoke about his positive influence at a celebration of life held in June, after the fatal crash.
“He touched every single person; I think he meant the world and more to everyone,” said a former student of Phillips.
Other students echoed the statement and said he helped them believe in themselves.
