RICHMOND, Va. – At a time when new grocers moving into the Richmond market don’t offer fuel points, Kroger’s new promotion will likely appeal to consumers wanting to save some holiday cash.

Through January 31, 2017, Kroger customers in Richmond can redeem unlimited fuel points. Customers will be able to purchase fuel for as low as 1¢ per gallon on one purchase of fuel up to 35 gallons.

Previously, customers could only cash in a maximum of 1,000 points during a gas purchase. That would be a discount of $1 off per gallon of gas.

Kroger’s fuel points program allows customers to earn one fuel point for every $1 spent in the grocery store. For every 100 fuel points, customers can get 10 cents off per gallon of gas.

Customers will have the option of using a portion of their discount and saving a select amount for later.

“We’re thrilled to be able to offer unlimited fuel points to our loyal Kroger customers in Richmond,” said Anne Jenkins, spokesperson for Kroger Mid-Atlantic. “We are always looking for ways to bring more value to our customers’ everyday lives. Creating ways for shoppers to save on fuel just by doing their normal grocery shopping is another example of that.

Customers can also earn 2x fuel points on most gift card purchases and 50 fuel points for qualifying prescriptions. In addition to Kroger fuel centers, Kroger customers can also redeem fuel points at participating Shell stations.

Martin’s customers also get fuel discount points at a rate of 10 cents for every $100 they spend in the store.

Publix recently purchased 10 local Martin’s locations, but not the fuel centers. Martin’s has not addressed what they will do if fueling centers aren’t purchased when the remaining nine stores are sold.

They have said, however, that it’s business as usual as Martin’s continues to operate the stores.

Three Martin’s stores slated to be purchased by Publix will close for remodeling starting this fall, according to management. The locations at 10250 Staples Mill Road, 2250 John Rolfe Parkway and 4591 S. Laburnum Road will be closed on November 28 or later.
