RICHMOND, Va. -- Ahead of the Nov. 8 election, Richmond mayoral candidate Bobby Junes joined CBS 6 in the studio for an interview and then answered questions from voters via Facebook live.

Junes, 60, has a background in government service and is running his campaign on a platform that hopes to get citizens engaged with city government as well as clean up city politics.

He has never held an elected office but his background includes service as commissioner for Henrico County Parks and Recreation (for 10 years), on the Henrico County Board of Real Estate Evaluation Review and as a project director of the Richmond Area Habitat for Humanity.

He was also a board member of CARITAS.

Junes resides in the Museum District.

Junes has so far reported $1,370 in donations to his campaign, according to records from the Virginia Public Access Project. He has only raised more than his opponent Lawrence Williams, who has raised no funds.  Both of those candidates have placed at the very bottom of a poll by Christopher Newport University’s Wason Center for Public Policy.

Junes recently answered a few questions -- proposed to each candidate -- about his experience and vision for the city. You can read those below and tune-in for his Facebook live interview at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Why should Richmond vote for you?

I think things are out of step with the city of Richmond’s operations. Something’s missing. I feel like I can reach out and get a strategy where everyone’s on the same page.

What positive changes would Richmond see under your tenure?

The three items that I’m really focused on: the first one is education. The second one is what I call economic partnership – that’s between employers and employees. And the third one is a rating system I call two-factor, where you get what’s called active citizen engagement. It’s a rating system where the residents get to rate the city’s performance in different areas, and vice versa. It’s not just a one way street.

Do you support stronger governmental transparency from city officials?

Yes. Absolutely. In terms of transparency, we’re going to have fixed objectives to meet, and then we’ll have variable objectives as we see fit.

All mayoral candidates were invited to participate in an interview with CBS 6 and so far, candidates Levar Stoney, Lawrence Williams, Jon Baliles, Michelle Mosby and Joe Morrissey have appeared.Jack Berry has confirmed an interview next week. You can read all RVA Mayor coverage HERE.
