RICHMOND, Va. — A Richmond man was arrested  in connection with a shooting that took place in October in the Southwood neighborhood.

Hugo J. Palma Iraheta, 22, of Richmond, has been charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Shortly before 1 a.m. on Sept. 18, officers responded to the 4600 block of Southwood Parkway for a report of a person shot. They arrived to find an adult male lying on the sidewalk, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Area residents may recall the shooting because it resulted in a standoff at the Autumn Court apartment complex. Police called in the SWAT team and surrounded a portion of the complex because they believed the shooting suspect(s) ran into an apartment there.

Officers were forced to wait for a search warrant.

When police returned hours later with the document they sent a robot into the apartment to search for the suspects but didn’t find anyone, a search by the SWAT team turned up nothing as well.

On Sept. 29 Richmond Police released a description of Palma Iraheta,

“Palma is described as a 22-year-old, white male, 5’6” tall, weighing approximately 220 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He may be driving a 2001 Honda minivan,” police said at the time. “He is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.”
