Two people dead after likely overdose at Petersburg motel

Star Motel

PETERSBURG, Va. – Police are investigating after two residents at the Star Motel were found dead Saturday night, Oct. 8.

Officers responded to room 19 at the motel, along 39 S. Crater Road.

The call came in just before 11 p.m. Saturday. Someone had found two people unresponsive and not breathing.

Upon arrival, both victims were pronounced dead later. They have been identified as 53-year-old David Waltman and 41-year-old Melissa Nicholas.

Initial investigation indicates that the deaths are most likely related to substance abuse.

More information will be released pending the Medical Examiners’ findings.
