Louisa outlasts Powhatan 28-20 in a battle of unbeatens

Powhatan, Va. - Louisa rushed for 356 yards and four touchdowns, three from Job Whalen as they hung on to beat Powhatan 28-20 in a matchup of two of the top 3 teams in 4A East.

The Lions raced out to a 22-0 lead thanks to Whalen and RaQuan Jones rushing the ball. Louisa converted 2 TDs off Powhatan turnovers in the first half to lead 14-0 at the half. Whalen ran 26 times for 147 yards and 3 scores while Jones added 10 carries for 104 yards.

The Indians (5-1) came alive in the second half behind Justin DeLeon. He carried 27 times for 174 yards and two scores, one from 75 yards out to bring Powhatan within a single score. The Indians did recover a late onside kick but could do nothing with the opportunity.

Louisa (6-0) has another tough road test next week at Western Albemarle while Powhatan is on the road at Charlottesville.
