RICHMOND, Va. – State police are working a single-vehicle crash along I-95 south near the Belvidere exit in Richmond Saturday afternoon.

Sgt. Steve Vick with Virginia State Police said the crash happened around 4:30 p.m. near exit 75.

“A Chevrolet 4500 pickup was pulling a 50-foot trailer when it lost control and struck the barrier wall causing pieces of the barrier wall to go into the northbound travel lanes of I-95,” Vick said.

Officials said the driver and passenger were transported to VCU Medical Center.

The interstate’s right two lanes are closed as the cleanup continues. The left lane southbound is open.

As of 5:40 p.m., traffic was backed up three miles. By 7:30 p.m., the backup had cleared.

Troopers are investigating what caused the crash.
