RICHMOND, Va. -- Hurricane Matthew will come very close to Florida late Thursday.

The track of Matthew is still uncertain along the Florida coast as well as farther north, so there are still a large range of possibilities for Virginia.

The most likely track right now is for the storm to make landfall near Wilmington, NC and then ride along and just inland through the Outer Banks.

The track would then move near Virginia Beach and out to sea.

"The latest data continues to support an eventual curve (or even turn) to the right away from the Virginia coast," CBS 6 meteorologist Mike Goldberg said. "While this is not a certainty, it is reason for optimism in central Virginia. However, keep in mind this is a dangerous storm and we can't let our guard down just yet."

The main impact to our region would be Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

Will continue to update the forecast and refine our expectations for Matthew over the coming days.

More information is available in the CBS 6 Hurricane Tracker.
