RICHMOND, Va. — The manhunt is over for Joseph Conway. The 34-year-old King George man was captured in Richmond Monday night, according to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

Information about the arrest was expected to be released at an afternoon press conference.

Conway had been on the run since Sunday night when investigators said he opened fire on Spotsylvania County deputies, striking a police K9.

Dux, the K-9, was taken to the emergency vet. He is said to be recovering well.

Conway was the passenger in a car that was pulled over in Spotsylvania Sunday night.

The driver, who was wanted on numerous felony warrants out Fredericksburg, was taken into custody.

Conway, a passenger in the car, got out of the vehicle, got into a fight with the deputy, and ran off, a Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.

“A Spotsylvania K-9 Deputy and his k-9 partner had arrived and the K-9 was released to chase the suspect. After a short pursuit, Conway pulled a pistol from his clothing and fired several rounds at the pursuing Deputies and the K-9, striking the dog at least one time,” Captain Jeff Pearce said.

The Deputies returned fire, but were not sure whether they hit Conway who ran into a neighborhood and hid.

This is a developing story.
