RICHMOND, Va. -- More than four inches of rain fell across Central Virginia Wednesday, and more rain is in the forecast for Thursday.
A large upper-level vortex will bring another two days of rain to the region, and a flash flood watch has been issued for much of the area through Friday.
Much of the area will receive between two and five inches of rainfall through the period.
The low will weaken and move far enough north to bring us a respite from the rain this weekend, but a few showers will still be possible on Saturday.
Dry weather is expected Sunday through early next week.
Tropical Storm Matthew continues to strengthen over the Windward Islands and will likely become a hurricane Thursday or Friday as it moves over the open waters of the Caribbean.
Matthew could impact the U.S. east coast in the next eight to 10 days, but the track of this system beyond five days is highly uncertain.
