CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- The man arrested for leading Virginia State Police on a 90-mile pursuit that reached speeds of 100 mph was identified as 32-year-old Sky R. Almodovar, of North Chesterfield County, Virginia.
Almodovar is on FBI Terror Watch List, law enforcement sources told CBS 6 reporter Jon Burkett.
No information has been released yet as to why he appears on that list. The FBI Terrorist Watch List is not made public.
Interstate 64 Pursuit
Police in Albemarle County attempted to pull Almodovar over Wednesday night, at about 7:30 p.m., due to information an officer had that Almodovar was driving on a revoked license and believed to have a firearm in his possession, Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick said.
Almodovar is a convicted felon, Vick added.
"Almodovar refused to stop for the officer and a pursuit was initiated," Vick said. "The pursuit continued east with the suspect vehicle reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph. Despite attempts by state and local police to stop the suspect vehicle, the pursuit did not end until the vehicle lost control in the curve of the Jahnke Road exit ramp from southbound Chippenham Parkway at the City of Richmond and Chesterfield County line. The suspect vehicle then rammed two State Police cars before finally being contained and stopped at the bottom of the exit ramp."
Almodovar was taken to Chippenham Hospital for minor injuries. A woman in his car was not hurt.
Almodovar was charged with three felony counts of eluding police, three counts of driving while license revoked, making an unsafe lane change, disregard a stop light and unauthorized use of a state inspection sticker, according to Virginia State Police.
More charges were pending, Vick said.
Almodovar is being held, without bond, at Henrico Jail.
Chesterfield Home Search
FBI agents were at Almodovar's Fallbrooke Drive home for several hours Wednesday, according to neighbors.
“They were just parked like they were looking for something to happen… kind of circling around block, then coming back,” one neighbor said. “It was kind of unusual. This is a very quiet neighborhood to have that type of activity.”
Neighbors said they had not seen Almodovar for several days prior to his arrest.
Who is Sky Almodovar?
Law enforcement sources indicated to CBS 6 reporter Jon Burkett that Almodovar's name appeared on FBI Terror Watch List as of Wednesday night.
No information has been released as to why he appears on the list.
Virginia State Police confirmed Almodovar was a convicted felon.
A search of Central Virginia court records indicated he was arraigned in June on charges of felony malicious wounding.
That case had not yet gone to trial in Henrico Court, records indicated.
