RICHMOND, Va. — The remnants of what was Tropical Storm Julia remained fairly stationary over the Mid-Atlantic coast much of the week.  A steady stream of moisture produced continual heavy rainfall across far southeastern Virginia.  While sections of the Richmond metro area accumulated a few inches of rain this week, Hampton Roads received over a foot of rain in some locations.

Here is a rainfall accumulation map from the National Weather Service in Wakefield.  It is a dual-polarization radar image, and it matches very well with observations taken across the area.  These totals are from Monday through Thursday morning.
