SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. -- The former Cosby High School student who stabbed a Sussex County pastor and his wife who opened their home to him, will spend the next 55 years behind bars.

Max Lloyd Chisholm pleaded guilty to five felonies Wednesday including burglary to attempted murder, aggravated malicious wounding, and robbery.

Chisholm broke into the home of Hugh and Carol Mayes on June, 15 2015 and stabbed the Sussex couple multiple times while they slept.

Pastor Mayes suffered a stab wound to the chest and his wife suffered stab wounds to her neck and chest. The couple survived the attack.

For six months, the couple let Chilsom live in their Sussex County home. The entire time the couple tried to get him into the mental health care at local facilities, to get the care they believed he needed.
