HOPEWELL, Va. -- Police identified the man shot and killed two blocks from his Hopewell home as 21-year-old John G. McGowan.
McGowan, of Woodbine Street, was found dead in the area of Byrd Street and North 21st Avenue, at about 11:05 p.m. Monday.
Police were called to that part of Hopewell when neighbors heard gunshots.
Police have not yet released details about a shooting suspect, nor a motive behind the shooting.
The fatal shooting was Hopewell's second reported homicide of the year, according to police.
