WAYNESBORO, Va. – Gang members convicted for the 2014 murder of Waynesboro Police Department reservist Cpt. Kevin Quick were sentenced in Charlottesville court Monday.

Prosecutors previously said that the four members of the 99 Goon Syndikate, a branch of the Bloods street gang, held Quick at gunpoint in his own SUV.

Quick was headed to see his daughter, who was not feeling well, when he was attacked.

He was forced to give his banking personal identification number to the criminals and $400 was taken from him account.

When the murders discovered his Waynesboro Police ID, police said the group decided to drive to an isolated lot on the border of Goochland County, and they shot Quick once in the head.

Daniel Mathis has been sentenced to life plus 132 years for the abduction and murder of Quick.

Shantai Shelton and Mersadies Shelton were both sentenced to life in prison, plus 82 years. Mersadies is also known by the name Maisha Uhuru.

Kweli Uhuru was sentenced to life plus 10 years for Quick’s abduction and murder.

Uhuru was also found guilty by a jury in February for a string of armed robberies that ended when the four abducted and killed Quick.

Law enforcement used the RICO statute to prosecute the gang members fully.

“If not for the cooperative efforts of law enforcement, these violent criminals might still be free today,” said John P. Fishwick Jr., U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia. "This is a violent, vicious gang off the streets."

Six other gang members will be sentenced in connection to the crime.

“Gangs operating in Central Virginia are going to meet justice,” said a FBI special agent at Monday’s press conference. “Remember the name of Cpt. Kevin Quick and the sacrifice he made in Virginia.”
