LEGO event breaks Guinness World Record in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. –- The largest fan-created LEGO  experience arrived in Richmond for the first time this weekend.

Thousands of people checked out the more than 67,000 square feet of LEGOs at Brick Fest Live! at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.

The event meant for visitors of all ages features different building challenges.

"It's one of those things that people have put into their basement for 50 years, pulled it out,” Brick Fest Live! Show Manager Mark Noel said. “It still works with today's product, but it also transcends because it's fun for kids, it's fun for adults.”

Brick Fest Live! broke a Guinness World Record Saturday by building a 20x20 foot floor mosaic of Darth Vader out of LEGOs.

The event continues Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features:

  • Brick Fest Derby: Build and race your own LEGO derby car down 35‐foot-long timed tracks
  • Inspiration Stations: Add to existing LEGO cities and make them your own
  • LEGO Mini Golf Course: For families to enjoy
  • Collaborative Building: Massive walls of LEGO mosaics built by attendees
  • Shopping: New, vintage, rare and custom LEGO sets, from the largest variety of LEGO‐themed merchandise under one roof
  • Video Game Arena: Challenge your family and make new friends in the Brick Fest Gaming Arena
