Blessing of the Animals ceremony at two Chesterfield churches

CHESTERFIELD, Va. — Two separate churches will be holding ceremonies to bless animals, in October.

A Blessing of the Animals will be held at 5 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 2, at Saint Marks United Methodist Church at 1551 Lucks Lane in Midlothian.

All animals welcomed but they must be on leash or in containers. The only admission is an offering of animal food or blankets to be donated to a local animal shelter.

October 8

A Blessing of the Animals will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church at 1100 Mt. Pisgah Drive, Midlothian.

All pets (leashed or secured in crates, cages or enclosures) are welcome at this free family event, which takes place outdoors, in the courtyard behind the church sanctuary.

Donations (pet food/pet supplies, monetary contributions) will be collected to benefit the St. Francis Humane Association and the Richmond Animal League.

Watering stations, pet treats and information about animal adoptions, fostering and volunteering will be available at this event.

There is also an annual blessing of the animals in Shockoe Slip, which is held during the Decemeber holiday season.
