RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Police Department is now trying a new way to help crack unsolved crimes and they’re using social media to do it.

Tuesday the department launched Cold Case Tuesday on Facebook. The cold cases will be picked near the anniversary of when the crime happened.

“Every Tuesday RPD will highlight a case in which leads have gone cold and detectives need the community’s help to reinvigorate the investigation,” the department wrote on Facebook.

The first case highlights a 2015 shooting near Richmond International Raceway.

On September 15, 2015, a woman sustained serious injuries after being shot after leaving her home in the Prospect Park neighborhood to check on a disturbance outside.

The shooting happened shortly after 11 p.m.

Witnesses reported seeing a male and female suspects sitting inside of an older model, dark green, possibly Chrysler 300 with a sunroof in the 3700 block of Delmont Street.

Police say the suspects argued with people in the parking lot. The victim came outside to speak with the suspects.

The pair got back into the vehicle and started to drive off. That’s when the male suspect shot the victim in the stomach. The suspects were last seen fleeing the scene on Delmont Street toward Laburnum Avenue.

The victim suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound, but she did survive.

The male suspect is a heavy set, black man in his early 30s with a dark complexion. He was wearing a black hoodie and black fitted hat at the time of the incident.

The female suspect is described as a black woman, age 28-30, with a medium complexion, medium build and curly or bushy long hair. She was seen wearing a tank top and blue jeans.

Police say both suspects had New York accents.

Anyone with any information about this case is asked to call Major Crimes Detective Janet Mills at (804) 646-6734 or Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
