SUFFOLK, Va. — A three-year-old Franklin boy was killed on Route 58, near Wilroy Road, in Suffolk, according police.
The child, whose name was not released, was traveling in a Toyota when the driver of the car lost control and crossed the median into oncoming traffic.
The Toyota collided with a Mazda minivan.
“The occupants of the Mazda minivan [a family from Cary, North Carolina] were treated and released from the hospital,” a Suffolk Police spokesperson said. “The mother of the toddler that was killed in the accident remains hospitalized in serious condition.”
Investigators are working to determine what caused the Toyota driver to lose control of the car.
The accident was reported at about 2:11 p.m. Sunday. The road fully reopened to traffic at about 7:45 p.m.
