KING GEORGE COUNTY, Va. – Police say a 56-year-old cyclist was killed after being hit by a vehicle in King George County Sunday evening.

Maurice E. Minter, of King George County, was transported to Mary Washington Hospital after sustaining injuries in the crash. Minter died from those injuries Monday, September 12.

Investigators say the cyclist was hit when he crossed the road into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The crash occurred at 7:50 p.m. at Ridge Road and Cedar Hill Lane in King George County.

State Police says Minter crossed Ridge Road into the path of a west bound 2013 Volkswagen. The Volkswagen was unable to avoid striking the bicyclist.

Police say the roadway was not lit and the bike did not have any flashing reflectors on it. Minter was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

There are no charges in the crash.
