RICHMOND, Va. -- Friends and family are grieving the sudden loss of 18-year-old Jordan Bowman, who fell to her death from a high-rise apartment building in Richmond early Saturday morning.

“Callers are reporting a female fell out of a window on the 13th floor,” dispatchers can be heard saying in emergency communications.

Officers responded to 104 West Franklin Street around 3 a.m. on Saturday. The Towers on Franklin building provides apartment rentals to Virginia Commonwealth University students.

Bowman, a  VCU freshman, lived in the building.

Police pronounced Bowman dead at the scene.

No foul play is suspected at this time, according to police.

The fatal fall

Aaron Joye, a close friend of the victim, said he was shocked as news of her tragic death spread on social media.

“None of this should've happened,” Joye said.

Joye remembered the student as a fun-loving person who had a zest for life.

Aaron Joye, a close friend of the victim, said he was shocked as news of her tragic death spread on social media.

“She was a good kid... She had everything. She had so much potential,” he said.

Bowman graduated earlier this year from Mills E. Godwin, and recently started her college career at VCU. Joye said that experience was cut short during an incident at a party in her apartment building.

Joye wanted the student's family to know he understands their pain and that he is also hurting.

“She was a really good kid. She had a really good heart,” Joye said.
